Seasonal Food Trends

Like fashion, different food trends come and go depending on the season. This winter we want to make sure you have all the information on the latest food trends and ways to spice up your dishes.

Seasonal fruit and veg

One trend that has become increasingly popular is to source seasonal fruit and veg to make the best dishes for the time of year.

Seasonal veg perfect for the winter season include; cauliflower, sweet potato, beetroot and fruit such as, apples, lemons, and rhubarb. Enjoy our many seasonal dishes at your party such as our beetroot and orange salad, pavlovas with seasonal fruit, and our luscious lemon pie. Our vegetarian dishes also include stuffed peppers and spicy vegetable goulash, which form part of our hot fork menu.

With spices such as chilli, wasabi and turmeric being big flavour markers according to The Food People, it’s a great way to add a dash of spice to vegetable dishes such as a warming winter soup or stew. And, if you’re looking for inspiration for a celebration then try our vegetable mini spring rolls or samosas and our mixed oriental platter with sweet chilli sauce, to get a real spice hit.

Seventies food trends

Reports indicate that ‘foodie trends from the seventies are set to make a resurgence’ this winter. Some popular dishes from the era include, black forest gateau, baked stuffed salmon, and classic ice cream and jelly. Sponge fingers were also a popular option in the seventies and at Buffets by Design you can enjoy our tiramisu, and many other desserts with seasonal fruit perfect for a winter function.

Desserts

For those with a sweet tooth, caramel is becoming a popular winter food trend. Whether drizzled over a warm pudding, used in a filling for brownies or mixing it in with your hot chocolate, the options are unlimited. We also have an indulgent caramel pavlova, or we can also create a hazelnut or a seasonal fruit pavlova, all served with fresh cream. So that your event is right on trend.
