Inspiration for Christmas 2018

Christmas is right around the corner and will be with us before we know it! So, to avoid the panic of deciding what food to have for your Christmas party or dinner we have compiled a few ideas to help you out and help make it stress free this season.

Parties

Canapes are ideal for parties; easy to make, serve, and eat. Keeping to the festive theme you can make Christmas dinner inspired canapes. The most obvious seems to be miniature pigs in blankets, making sure the bacon is crispy of course. Or create mini Yorkshire puddings stuffed with beef and horseradish as a delicious bitesize snack. If you don’t feel up to the challenge of making these, we offer them as part of our finger buffets menu.

Down the Pub

More and more pubs are offering Christmas day meals. Most will require booking well in advance. Might be best to lay off a large breakfast brunch as expect pubs to offer huge portions, plus starters if you feel like it. For dessert expect seasonal fruit crumbles served with custard, or gooey chocolate brownies drizzled with extra chocolate sauce with the option of the traditional Christmas pudding of course. We’ve also seen the trend for salted caramel being used for many types of desserts. Then after a short break a classic cheese board and fruit is still set to be a firm favourite.

Traditional or alternative?

The lead up to Christmas day is when you scour the shops and flip through Christmas food magazines to look for inspirational foodie choices to serve on Christmas day. But don’t feel pressured to stick with the traditional, think outside the box. Here, we’ve gathered a few thoughts on some alternative choices!

With the demand for meat free food on the rise, with an increase of 987% in 2017 (Vegan Society), try introducing vegan or vegetarian options to the dinner table. To many of you this suggestion might seem impossible, but to help you out, Tesco has introduced many vegan Christmas alternatives to their shelves this year including a ‘Cauliflower Wellington’.

And for a meat option? What about duck with a port sauce or gammon as an alternative to turkey?

But why not traditional? If you can’t do without your roast turkey and all the trimmings, BBC Good Food suggests a cider roast turkey which we think will provide an impressive classic Christmas dinner.
